"The Estrangement" by Jamaica Kincaid, May/June 2008
An article on a mother/daughter estrangement that was not resolved and for which the author has no regrets.
From the first paragraph:
"Three years before my mother died, I decided not to speak to her again.
And why? During a conversation over the telephone, she had once again
let me know that my accomplishments—becoming a responsible and
independent woman—did not amount to very much, . . . "
As the link is an AARP link, after several months or perhaps a year, the link probably will end up going nowhere but it should be good for a while.
